No La Riegues is a vernacular Spanish phrase that literally means “don’t
water it” or “ don’t spill it”, but that figuratively
means “don’t mess it up”. It is used commonly throughout
Mexico and Central America, and to a lesser extent in South America.
It is a phrase ready-made for a water quality/water conservation public
service campaign. Use of the phrase lends a certain amount of humor to
the campaign, and because of the ubiquitous use of this phrase, the campaign
will have universal recognition, similar to the Don’t Mess with
Texas campaign.
The initial phase was financed through the Coastal Management Program
of the Texas General Land Office. Any municipality or stormwater entity
or other water authority that would like to make use of the existing work
(video, audio, or print) is welcome to it.
The plan is to develop additional spots as we see how the first pieces
are received. We welcome partners in developing new spots!
The video segments are available as high quality beta or vhs tapes. The
videos are very high quality and were shot in 16mm.
John Jacob was
responsible for the creative genesis of this campaign. The assistance
of the contractor for this project, Interlex,
was invaluable and is greatly appreciated.
